Paul Cézanne

Paul Cézanne is regarded by many as the connecting link between the Impressionism of the 19th century and the modernism of the 20th. His new treatment of form, color, and composition prepared the ground for such movements as Cubism and Fauvism. The landscapes, still lifes, and portraits of Cézanne are strongly characterized by bold color and geometric shapes, giving his paintings an almost sculptural quality.
